As time goes on, car reviews by region gets more difficult; the business of making autos is increasingly international, as car buyers (particularly in the United States) lose the idea that domestic industry means domestic jobs, and that domestic jobs benefit them as well as the people who work (or who no longer work) for the automakers. At first, it was just manufacturing that crossed borders, to Mexico and increasingly to China; now, engineering is starting to become increasingly international, with GM assigning automotive design for different types of vehicles to different regions, Ford using their foreign subsidiaries to create small and mid-sized cars and crossovers, and Chrysler signing deals with Nissan and Chery while building offshore engineering centers. At the same time, the major growth in auto sales is occuring in nontraditional places: China, India, and Russia. Ironically, the citizens of these countries (along with France, Germany, and Sweden) tend to buy from domestic manufacturers.
